At Local Crate we believe in the importance of living green. We are committed to eliminating food waste and building a better food system for our planet. A big part of that is sustainably disposing of our trash. Here are some helpful tips on how to dispose of each portion of your meal kit in an eco-friendly manner to give the planet the love it deserves.
- Brown box: break down the box so it lies flat and recycle in your curbside bin.
- Sleeve: cut off and save the top portion of the card, so you have the recipe for future use. The remainder of the sleeve can be recycled in your curbside bin.
- Food storage and produce bags: these bags can be rinsed and reused many times over. If you want to dispose of them they can be recycled at many grocery stores. Simply find a drop off location using Plastic Film Recycling’s drop off directory, make sure the bags are clean and dry, and bring them to a drop off location to be recycled.
- Food scraps: while a valuable perk of purchasing meal kits is minimal food waste, you will likely have a few trims and ends from produce prep. You can save any vegetables scraps in one of our of the zip top bags and store in the freezer to make a pot of stock, or these food scraps can be composted.
The raw chicken or beef packaging is the only part of the meal kit that has to be thrown away to help prevent the spread of foodborne illness from the raw meat.
Overall, it’s simple to recycle, reuse, and compost your Local Crate. We thank you for helping us make the world a little greener!
