Step 1: COOK RICE

Read through entire recipe before getting started. In a medium pot, heat 1 Tbsp. oil over high heat until shimmering. Add rice and sauté until lightly toasted and aromatic, 1-2 minutes. Add 1 1/4 cups water and a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer until rice is fluffy and tender and water is absorbed, 15-20 minutes. Fluff with a fork. While rice is cooking, proceed with Step #3. Note: If the rice has absorbed the water but isn't fully cooked after 15-20 minutes; add 1/4 cup water, cover, and cook for 8-10 minutes more.

Step 2: MISE EN PLACE

Cut broccoli into florets and set aside. Then, cut broccoli stems in 1/2" pieces. Mince or grate garlic. Remove beef from package, pat dry.

Step 3: SAUTÉ AROMATICS

Heat 1 Tbsp. oil in a medium skillet over medium-low heat. Add garlic and broccoli stems, sauté 1-2 minutes until softened but not brown.

Step 4: COOK BEEF

Add ground beef and a small pinch of salt and pepper. Increase heat to medium-high and cook - breaking apart with a spoon or spatula - until done, about 5-7 minutes. Add sweet tamari sauce and continue to stir-fry until most of the liquid has been absorbed, about 3-4 minutes. The USDA recommends cooking ground beef to an internal temperature of 160ºF.

Step 5: ADD BROCCOLI

Add broccoli to ground beef. Stir-fry until incorporated. Reduce heat to low and cover with a lid to steam. Steam over low heat for 3-4 minutes until broccoli is al dente and vibrant green. Toss again to incorporate.

Step 6: PLATE YOUR DISH

Divide rice between two bowls and top with sesame beef and broccoli. Garnish with sesame seeds. Enjoy!
