Thai Coconut Steak with Garlicky Roasted Broccoli

ABOUT THE DISH

Tender sirloin steak is first marinated, and then accented with a light, flavor-loaded coconut milk and lime sauce.  If you’re a wine fan, try a fruity, unoaked Chardonnay with this dish.

Step 1: MISE EN PLACE

Read through entire recipe before getting started. Preheat oven to 425ºF. Peel ginger and grate. Mince or grate garlic. Peel and mince shallot. Mince cilantro leaves and stems. Zest lime; cut in half and juice. Cut broccoli into florets, as needed.

Step 2: MARINATE SIRLOIN

In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup coconut milk, all lime juice, all lime zest, fish sauce, and ginger; mix well. Place sirloin in a large zip-top bag. Add coconut milk mixture and let marinate until ready to use. Rinse out bowl for later use. While marinating start your rice (Step #2).

Step 3: COOK RICE

Add rice and 1½ cups water to a small pot. Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer, cover and cook for 25 min until water has been absorbed and rice is soft. While rice is cooking, move on to roast broccoli (Step #3).

Step 4: ROAST BROCCOLI

In a medium bowl, combine 2 Tbsp. oil, shallot, garlic and a pinch of salt and pepper; add broccoli and toss well. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet and roast for 25-30 min until browned, even lightly charred.

Step 5: SEAR SIRLOIN

Heat 1 tsp. oil in a medium sauté pan over medium-high heat. Remove steaks from marinade; wipe clean and pat dry. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Sear for 3-4 min on each side. Remove from pan and set aside. Reduce heat to low; add marinade to pan, bring to a simmer for 1-2 min. Add remaining coconut milk and stir. Turn off heat.

Step 6: PLATE YOUR DISH

After resting a few minutes, slice steak against the grain into thin slices. Divide sauce between 2 bowls; top with rice, broccoli and steak. Garnish with cilantro. Enjoy!
